Server Job Description

Objectives:
Provides fast, friendly and efficient service by suggestively selling menu items, taking drink, appetizer, entrée and dessert orders and insuring that guests receive great service throughout their meal.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Greets guests, explains special of the day, explains menu using concise and articulate language, and listens and responds to questions.
2. Suggestively sells appetizer, entrée and dessert menu items by describing each item; describes each item in an appetizing way.
3. Delivers checks promptly to the line so that orders can be prepared within the prescribed time.
4. Picks up orders and delivers orders on a tray (weighing up to 20 lbs.) to guests at the table within prescribed time limits.
5. Checks back during the meal to ask if guests are satisfied, checks for refills, suggestively sells additional items and clears (pre-bus) miscellaneous items from the table, and delivers guest check.
6. Performs service duties for other servers in the dining room by picking up their orders when ready in the kitchen and delivering them and checks other tables and provides assistance.
7. Communicates with guests demonstrating confidence and encourages them to feel unique and special.
8. Performs duties that require organization, speed, efficiency, and bending and lifting.
9. Handles multiple priorities, works under stress and exercises good judgment when dealing with guest situations and complaints.
10. Always be on time for your scheduled shifts.
11. Comply with mission of Oasis Cafe and Hope Clinic.
12. Do what you can to help ensure an efficient, smooth flowing restaurant.

Marginal Job Functions:
Performs side duties including folding napkins, rolling silverware, cleaning trays, restocking shelves, filling ice bins, cleaning and breaking down service area, using cleaning compounds, making coffee, and other duties as required.


Host/Hostess Job Description

Objectives:
Greet and seat guests with warm, friendly service, make a good first impression, and insure they are happy when they leave.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Knows floor plan, reads server station assignments and knows table numbers and section.
2. When opening, checks menus for cleanliness and freshness, checks dining room and floors for cleanliness and takes actions where needed.
3. Provides a smile and friendly greeting for guests, uses guest's name (if known), confirms number in party, asks guests for their seating preference and special needs, walks with guests at their pace to the table, alerts guests of steps and inclines, assists if necessary and informs server/manager of special needs.
4. Presents menus to guests and explains specials of the day, informs server of guest present at the table and returns to the lobby to greet guests, checks dining room for guests who are ready to leave, directs bussers to clean tables as needed by the guest volume and special needs.
5. Thanks guests when they are leaving, asks them to return, asks about their dining experience, opens door for departing guests. Must be able to handle guest complaints and pressure.
6. When closing, collects menus, inspects for cleanliness and prepares the station for the next day.
7. Performs duties that require standing and moving throughout the dining room for up to 8 hours or longer if needed.
8. Communicates with guests demonstrating confidence and encourages them to feel unique and special.
9. Always be on time for your scheduled shift.

Marginal Job Functions:
Performs side duties that include performing restroom checks, cleaning of restrooms, taking out trash bags, answering the telephone, training other hosts/hostesses, handling cleaning compounds and chemicals, and other duties as required.

 


Busser Job Description

Objectives: Bus and reset tables, help servers and dining room hosts/hostesses, respond to guests' needs and keep dining room and work areas clean.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Checks station assignment and side duties, checks service stations for ice, cups, etc., cleans and restocks areas according to duties assigned for the day.
2. Busses and cleans tables, chairs and seats, resets tables promptly after guests leave, sweeps the floor and carries bus tub (weighing up to 35 lbs.) to dishwashing station.
3. Knows table numbers and dining room floor plan, responds quickly to guest requests or notifies servers responsible of any guest requests, questions or complaints.
4. Watches the dining room closely to insure tables are bussed as soon as guests leave, works closely with servers, hosts/hostesses and manager and insures that tables are ready in response to their instructions, helps fellow bussers with their tables as needed to insure tables are ready to meet guest volume and completes assigned side duties.
5. Understands and follows safety and sanitation practices and works with clean and sanitized tools (bus tubs, towels, broom, dustpan, floor sweeper).
6. Stocks and replenishes cups, glasses, ice, CO2, soft drink dispensers, etc.
7. Performs duties that require standing, fast movement throughout the dining room, kitchen and serving area. Position requires bending, reaching, twisting and lifting containers (weighing up to 50 lbs.).
8. Performs side duties including cleaning vents, scrubbing trash cans, cleaning gum from underneath the tables, detailed cleaning of chairs, cleaning of ice bins, replacing light bulbs, setting up sanitizers, cleaning floor sweepers, emptying trash, taking trash to the dumpster, vacuuming all carpeted floors, and cleaning the bus area.

Café Coordinator Job Description

Objectives:
Oversees the daily operations of the Café: opens the café, performs administrative duties, supervises employees and volunteers and recruits volunteers. Coordinates special events and promotions planning and execution.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Performs opening duties including greeting staff, turning on required equipment and checking dining room and grounds to insure cleanliness.
2. Supervises all dining room operations and ensures there is a smooth flow of guests from initial greeting until departure.
3. Supervises cash handling, safety, security and sanitation.
4. Supervises kitchen: ensures food production and cooked food results in highest quality for hot and cold foods being served, directs and instructs staff on food preparation and cooking procedures, and handles purchasing, receiving and inventories.
5. At closing, supervises handling of cash, cleaning and other duties from the closing checklist. Secures the café upon leaving.
6. Knows and can accurately perform all employee and volunteer functions in the café. Interviews, selects and provides training for staff, conducts performance reviews and coaches employees. Schedules volunteers and employees.
7. Interacts with guests, provides a smile and friendly greeting for guests and uses guest's name whenever possible.
8. Knows menu and features and is able to describe every item on the menu and respond to inquiries.
9. Understands and follows safety and sanitation practices as mandated by the Health Department.
10. Interacts with volunteers and volunteer groups, providing direction and guidelines for their service.
11. Thanks guests when they are leaving, asks them to return and asks about their experience. Must be able to handle guest complaints and pressure.
12. Conducts regular evaluation of standards for food and service. Plans and initiates programs and events to benefit guests.
13. Plans and conducts special events for fund raising and promotion.

Participates in community and civic organizations, lifts and transports containers weighing up to 100 lbs., conducts employee and volunteer meetings, and other duties as required.

 


Dishwasher Job Description

Objectives:
Cleans, maintains and sanitizes all areas of the dining room and kitchen and cleans outside grounds to insure guest have a clean and safe place to dine.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Checks dish machine, drains tank, reassembles the machine, refills the tank and insures dish machine is ready to operate before meals.
2. Cleans and mops before meal period, checks for broken items on the floor and wet areas that may be hazardous and removes the hazard.
3. Cleans, sanitizes, sweeps, mops, and vacuums dining room and lobby.
4. Cleans parking lot, landscaping, sidewalks and dumpster area.
5. Removes trash containers (weighing up to 100 lbs.) from food production area before meal period.
6. Operates the dish machine and pot washing equipment during and after meal periods. Cleans dish machine and breaks down machine for the next day.
7. Understands and uses safety procedures when using all equipment. Understands chemical hazards and follows safety procedures when using chemicals, chemical compounds and cleaning products.
8. Knows correct temperature for washing, rinsing, and pre-soaking of all pots, pans, utensils, plates, glasses, etc. Identifies problems and makes needed adjustments.
9. Knows proper rotation of food items.
10. Moves throughout the entire kitchen, dining room, and outside grounds performing duties that require lifting containers (weighing up to 100 lbs.).

Performs side duties including cleaning, setting up resoaking solution, organizing and cleaning of storerooms and wet and dry storage areas, cleaning of equipment, and other duties as required.

 


Chef Job Description

Objectives:
Plan menus, purchase food, set up, cook, maintain quality control, clean up, serve food, cook to order, maintain kitchen and food storage, and meet Health Department guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Plans menus, maintaining nutritional balance.
2. Sets up, stocks and organizes work station at the beginning of the day.
3. Sets levels for production of food items.
4. Thaws, cuts and prepares food items. Portions food items and stores them in proper containers. Uses knives, measuring ladles, scoops, scales, can opener, kitchen scissors or other kitchen equipment including, without limitations, slicer/mixer, tilt skillets, steamers, crescors, steam jacket kettles or braisers and other tools or utensils.
5. Checks stock levels in collers, and steam tables for sufficient stock.
6. Maintains proper food storage temperatures and rotation.
7. Prepares broiled, baked, grilled, steamed, sautéed, blended, and fried items using recipes. Uses sauté pans, stock pots, grill, stove, ovens and fryers.
8. Performs all duties in all areas of the kitchen.
9. Can identify food items, produce, meats, cheeses, sauces, and prepared food. Knows cooking times for all items to insure correct doneness.
10. Organizes items for sautéing, blending, cooking in ovens, grilling, frying in fryers, pasta cookers and steamers to insure accuracy of items ordered.
